8 Travel Tips: Eat Well & Exercise on the Go

Whether you find yourself traveling for work or just for fun, it’s easy to forget two things when traveling: eating well and exercising. (Anything else you forget you can just order online!) Here are eight travel tips so you can eat well and exercise during your next big adventure.

#1 Access an Online Workout

If you think travel means you have to skip a workout, you don’t. Nowadays, there are so many workouts available online. From YouTube to fitness websites, there are so many at-home workouts you can access and the best part is many of them are free!

#2 Drink Plenty of Water

Travel of any kind can leave your body dehydrated, which can leave you feeling foggy, lethargic and sluggish. Combat these feelings by drinking water. Staying properly hydrated throughout the course of your travel days can help keep you feeling energized. Plus, you will have a radiant glow about you once you arrive to your final destination. Add an added burst of fresh citrus flavor to your water by incorporating fresh fruits like lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit even pineapple.

Tip: Save yourself a water bottle purchase at the gas station or airport kiosk and pack your own reusable one instead.

#3 Eat Well

When it comes to traveling, one of the biggest challenges can be finding fresh, wholesome foods. However, with a little bit of advanced planning and preparation you can avoid this travel pitfall. (We are looking at you gas station snacks and airport fast food). Stock up on mindful snacks like bars, fruit and vegetable snacks, jerky, seeds, nuts and trail mix, granola, nut and seed butters and tuna packets.

#4 Make Time for Movement

Whether you walk the airport terminal or perform a set of body weight squats and lunges while you stop for a bathroom break at the highway oasis, make time for some movement. Once you arrive to your hotel, do some light stretching or simple yoga poses or better yet, hit the hotel gym or swim some laps at the pool.

#5 Practice Self Care

Self-care is important, especially when traveling. Besides diet and exercise, remember to give back to yourself through a self care routine. Pack some travel essentials in your carry on bag so you can have a post flight refresh before you land at your final destination. Pack items like cotton swabs, deodorant, a mini bottle of mouth wash so your breath is minty fresh and some hand lotion.

#6 Spa on the Go

When traveling, you not only want to feel your best, but you also want to look your best, so stock up on your favorite beauty supplies so you can have your very on “spa on the go” no matter where your next adventure takes you. Some great go-to beauty essentials include: rejuvenating facial wipes, coco butter moisturizer, depuffing eye gel, facial toner spray, a nail file and lip balm.

#7 Get Outside

If the hotel gym is under construction or a lap pool isn’t available, head outside for some fresh air and natural sunlight. Believe us, your lungs will thank you after being stuck inside all day long. Travel can leave many of us feeling cloudy and sometimes downright crummy, but something as simple as a short walk in Mother Nature can be deeply grounding and help us get back in touch with ourselves.

#8 Look for Classes Locally

Another way to stay active while you travel is to research local gyms and studios in the area you will be staying in. Some gyms offer complimentary class for first time visitors. Just be sure to call ahead and ask for specific details. Although some studios are more than welcome to host out of towners, some facilities will only offer complimentary classes to local residents. If that’s the case, ask about an out of town rate or any holiday specials. You never know what may be available to you unless you ask!
